The Herb & Spice Shop on Bank Street has been located in Centretown Ottawa for over 30 years!
The Herb & Spice Shop was created out of a need for fresh, healthy products in the Ottawa-area. Opening its doors in the 1970s, the Herb & Spice has its roots in "Hippy Era" values and ethics.
Over the past few decades, the shop has learned to expand and change alongside the needs of the community surrounding it. With increased demands for ethically sourced food, as well as animal-product-free options, the Food Shop has evolved into a haven for Ottawa-based healthy eaters.
As trends continue to change and grow, the shop has increased its selection to carry a wide range of gluten-free and raw foods, ready-made lunch and dinner options, as well as as many locally-produced foodstuffs we can find!
If you haven't stopped by the Food Shop in a while, come by and say hello! The store is quite literally bursting at the seams with nutritious, yummy goodies.
The Wellness Shop opened its doors on July 27th, 2013. A huge project that would never have been possible without the efforts of our wonderful staff and patient customers, the Wellness Shop was a long-awaited addition to the Food Shop. Housing thousands of new items, we moved all of our existing health, beauty, and supplement products to the newly-renovated storefront across the street.
Centretown's response to our new Wellness Shop has been amazing. We now serve hundreds of customers each day at 380 Bank Street (conveniently located just across the street from the Food Shop at 375 Bank St.). We've filled the shop to the brim with as many high-quality supplements, health, and beauty products that we can find- paying special attention to products that cater to vegetarian, vegan, organic, raw, and gluten-free lifestyles. The Wellness Shop also carries a huge selection of locally-made items.
The Wellness Shop concept was born out of a growing need for natural, healthy products within our community. By supporting local brands and holding wellness seminars, we hope to give back to the Ottawa-area just as much as they have given us!
In August of 2014, one year after the opening of the Wellness Shop, the Food Shop opened up its very own Juice Bar. With both juice and smoothie recipes designed specially for the Herb, our Juice Bar has been steadily growing its customer base and increasing its operating hours.
The Juice Bar uses fresh produce taken directly from out produce section, as well as offering a variety of protein powders that can be added to smoothies for an extra kick!
November of 2016 saw the opening of our highly anticipated Wellness Shop expansion.
With an expanded selection of supplements, cosmetics, personal hygiene, household and aromatherapy products, the new addition also allowed us to bring in new items such as Canadian-made designer clothing, bamboo underwear, Thermohair (kid mohair & nylon) socks, and a bulk medicinal herb apothecary.
The Herb & Spice Shop has been working hard to create an online presence for many years now. With active Facebook and Instagram accounts, we knew we needed to take the next step if we were to stay relevant and competitive in the ever-expanding digital world.
After much consultation and many hours of work, Herb & Spice Online opened for orders in December 2015, followed shortly by our new and improved website! We have been working tirelessly to develop a website and webstore that are easy-to-use, intuitive, and esthetically pleasing.
